Market researchs

Earn money simply by sharing your opinion.

What if you could answer a few questions in your spare time and get something in return? Companies, brands, universities, and research agencies constantly want to know what consumers are thinking. Market research is conducted to find this out. And you, as a consumer, can participate in that.

There are various websites and apps you can sign up for free to participate for paid surveys and other studies. Depending on the platform, you receive, for example money, points, gift vouchers, or other rewards.

The amount you can earn varies significantly from one study to another. Some surveys take only a few minutes and offer a small reward, whereas more extensive surveys, interviews, or research studies can yield considerably more.

Important: Think of this primarily as a way to earn some extra money in your spare time. It is not a guaranteed income, and the number of surveys you are invited to participate in varies from person to person.

In this article, you will discover 10 platforms you can check out and what you can expect from each platform.

1. LifePoints

LifePoints is an online research panel where you can get paid for sharing your opinion. After your free registration you create a profile. You answer questions about topics such as your interests, lifestyle, and consumer behavior. Based on this, LifePoints attempts to match you with surveys that suit your profile.

The topics can be quite different. Think of products, services, lifestyle, current affairs, and advertising.

For every survey you successfully complete, you will receive LifePoints. The number of points you receive depends on factors such as the length and type of the survey. You can see in advance how many LifePoints a survey awards.

You can then exchange the collected points for various rewards, including digital gift cards and PayPal credit.

LifePoints is interesting when you regularly have short moments to spare where you can complete a survey. You don't need any special skills, and you can decide for yourself which available studies to participate in.

An additional reason to check out the website is that LifePoints is currently offering new members a starting bonus of 10 LifePoints .

2. Norstat

Norstat is a European market research agency that works with research panels. As a panel member, you can get invited for various types of examinations in which you share your opinion and experiences.

In the Netherlands, Norstat now combines qualitative and quantitative research within a single panel. This allows participants, for example, to be approached for online questionnaires, but also for more extensive forms of qualitative research.

When you sign up, information from your profile is used to determine which surveys you might be suitable for. Norstat indicates that this helps, among other things, to reduce the frequency of inviting participants to surveys for which they ultimately do not fall within the target group.

When participating in studies, participants can receive Norstat Coins Depending on the panel and the available options, these can be redeemed for rewards. The exact reward varies by study. This means that you do not receive the same amount for every study. The duration, the type of study, and the target audience being sought can all influence the available compensation.

Norstat might be of interest if you want to regularly share your opinion on products, services, brands, and other topics. Another advantage is that you are not required to participate in every survey. Participation in studies is voluntary.

You can therefore easily combine Norstat with other research panels. By registering with multiple reliable panels, you increase your opportunities to receive surveys.

3. Motivaction

Do you know Motivaction The Dutch market research agency conducts various types of research into consumer opinions, experiences, and behavior.

M-select is particularly interesting for consumers. This is Motivaction's respondent selection agency that recruits participants for qualitative studies. For example, think of interviews, group discussions, product tests and other studies where you can give your opinion in detail.

Motivaction indicates that M-select regularly recruits new respondents. Participants may, for example, be asked to take part in discussions about new products, services, advertising campaigns, government forms, or their experiences as consumers.

When you sign up as a respondent, we check which studies match your profile. Not everyone is invited to every study. Researchers are often looking for a specific group of people—for example, based on age, family situation, life stage, or other profile characteristics.

M-select uses personal screening to select participants for qualitative studies. You may therefore be contacted or screened before actually participating in a study.

A major advantage of Motivaction/M-select is that participants receive compensation for their participation. Motivaction states that this compensation is paid out to participants as a cash amount. The amount you receive depends on the study and the time you spend on it.

Some studies, for example, involve a conversation or interview lasting approximately one hour. Motivaction has also published examples of participants stating that the compensation is paid into their bank accounts.

M-select can be particularly interesting if you don't want to limit yourself to just filling out short online questionnaires. This makes it an appealing option if you are willing to dedicate a bit more time to a study in exchange for compensation.

Please note! Motivaction states that payments for certain qualitative studies may have tax implications and, as of 2024, must be declared as "other income" under certain circumstances. If you regularly participate in paid studies, it is therefore advisable to check the latest information from Motivaction and the Tax and Customs Administration.

After registering and confirming your email address, you can receive surveys that match your profile. Toluna indicates that a complete and up-to-date profile can increase your chances of being invited to relevant surveys.

The number of points you receive varies by survey. According to Toluna, this can currently range from 15 to 50,000 points, depending on factors such as the length of the survey. Some special surveys may even offer higher rewards. This wide range exists because not every survey is the same.

A short survey may yield relatively few points, whereas an extensive study requires more time and can therefore earn more points.

Toluna can be interesting for people who enjoy trying out different types of surveys and like actively participating in an online consumer community.

Moreover, you don't have to accept every survey. You can choose for yourself which studies you want to participate in.

7. YouGov

YouGov is a name you have likely come across when looking for ways to earn money with surveys.

The platform collects consumer opinions on a wide range of topics. As a participant, you are offered surveys that match your profile. For participating, you receive points that you can later use for rewards.

What makes YouGov interesting is that it doesn't have to be just about products and advertising. Surveys can also cover social issues, brands, current events, and consumer behavior. That sets it apart from platforms that offer only short product-related questionnaires.

In addition, there is YouGov Shopper. This focuses on your actual purchasing behavior. You record information about your groceries and purchases and receive points in return.

For someone who shops regularly, this can be an attractive option, as you don't have to set aside time exclusively for long surveys.

YouGov is an interesting option if you enjoy sharing your opinions on various topics and are also interested in purchasing research. You can explore both possibilities and decide which suits you best.

8. PanelClix

PanelClix is an online research panel where you can earn points by completing surveys. The concept is simple: you create an account, fill out your profile, and then gain access to surveys for which you might be eligible. How much you earn depends on the survey.

The advantage of this type of panel is that you can combine various short surveys. You don't need to find a single large project to earn money.

PanelClix might be worth considering if you want to try out multiple survey platforms. That is a strategy I would recommend anyway when starting out with market research, as you never know for sure how many surveys a single platform will offer you each week.

With one panel, you might receive multiple invitations, whereas with another, you hardly receive anything at all. By testing several platforms, you can discover what suits your profile.

Are you ready for PanelClix?

9. Prolific

Prolific works slightly differently than traditional survey websites.

The platform focuses primarily on research studies. Participants can, for example, take part in studies in fields such as behavior, psychology, social sciences, and other areas of research.

Prolific states that participants can see in advance how much a study pays, how long it takes, and what is involved. You can then decide for yourself whether you want to participate.

A key difference compared to many other platforms is that Prolific currently uses a waiting list for new participants. You can sign up for the waiting list, but you won't necessarily gain immediate access to studies. Once you eventually gain access, you can view the studies for which you are eligible.

Prolific may be of interest to people who prefer participating in somewhat more extensive research studies rather than standard consumer surveys. Moreover, you receive advance information about the compensation and the expected duration of a study.

Check out Prolific and sign up for the waitlist.

10. Look for paid interviews and focus groups

The final option is essentially a category of its own. In addition to standard online surveys, there are paid interviews, focus groups, and research studies. These types of research can be far more extensive than a standard questionnaire.

For example, you might be asked to talk for an hour about a product you use, try out a new app, or share detailed insights about your experiences as a consumer.

The advantage? The compensation can be significantly higher.

The downside? You don't automatically qualify for every study. You often have to complete a screening first, after which it is determined whether your profile is suitable.

If you are willing to invest a bit more time in a study, interviews and focus groups can be more interesting than dozens of short surveys.

You can therefore combine this with standard survey platforms.

Finally

How much can you earn from market research surveys? This is, of course, the most important question. The honest answer is: it varies enormously.

A short survey may yield only a small reward. An in-depth interview, on the other hand, can pay much more.

If you are serious about trying to earn extra money through market research, you don’t have to limit yourself to just one platform. A smart approach is to sign up for various types of platforms, as there is no guarantee that you will receive a survey on every platform every day; after all, surveys are created for specific target audiences.

Please note! Market research surveys can be a fun way to earn extra money, but beware of websites promising that you can earn hundreds of euros a day by answering a few simple questions. You should view such claims with a critical eye.
